Over het evenement

We are living in a time when LGBTQ+ rights and safety are under attack around the world. From legislation targeting Queer communities to blatant discrimination to the rollback of hard-won protections, many Queer people are unsure whether spaces they once felt safe are still secure. In AI governance, the decisions being made today will shape how Queer people experience digital spaces, workplaces, and technology for generations to come. Your algorithm is trying to convince you that everyone around you hates you by showing you endless examples of people saying and doing deeply offensive and harmful things. But in real life, even if you don't realize it, you are surrounded by allies who want to support you but don’t know how. Maybe they are afraid of saying the wrong thing or using the wrong words—not because they're worried about being "canceled," but because they genuinely care about our community and don't want to cause harm. A whole spectrum exists between doing nothing and risking your livelihood to support a community you’re not part of.

This is an event for members of the Queer community to come together and answer the question, “what can I do to be a good ally?”

We'll create a practical guide for allies working in AI governance, with concrete actions ranging from everyday workplace support to taking stands on AI policies that affect marginalized communities—including the risks and trade-offs involved. First, we'll tell our stories - sharing experiences of when allies showed up well, when they missed the mark, and the opportunities where better support could have made a real difference in our lives, especially within AI governance and tech spaces Then we'll capture those experiences into a shareable resource with specific, actionable steps that allies can take to support the Queer community, from everyday workplace interactions to taking stands on AI policies and decisions Finally, we'll put that guide out into the world - making it available for people to use in their organizations and communities to start the conversations we need to be having about authentic allyship in AI Governance
